Judge denies bond in killing of ex-Oscar Smith football star

Circuit Judge Bruce Kushner  denied bond Monday for Marvin Knight Jr.,  a Chesapeake teen charged in the July fatal shooting of Lonnie Andrews Jr.

Knight, 17,  is scheduled to stand trial April 20  on charges of murder and use of a firearm , according to court records.

Andrews, an 18-year-old former Oscar Smith High  football standout, was shot  July 1  in the 800 block of Lindale Drive,  off Campostella Road  in South Norfolk,  according to police.

Knight’s father, testifying at the bond hearing, said his son was a junior at Oscar Smith and had no criminal history. He is being prosecuted as an adult.

James Broccoletti,  Knight’s attorney, said the case will be one of self-defense .

Oscar Smith Football and Lonnie

I think we can say that the Tigers haven't let Lonnie's death go in vain. They have made Tiger history recently and I hope they continue on this successful path.

May the criminal who took Lonnie's life be brought to swift and harsh justice.
