Norfolk's bald eagles rebuild old nest at botanical garden

Posted to: News Norfolk

NORFOLK

The bald eagle pair at Norfolk Botanical Garden are on the move again – rebuilding their original nest that fell apart in 2007.

Garden officials said the eagles don’t seem interested in using the nest they built earlier this year, where there was so much turmoil during the spring nesting season.

The pair’s only surviving eaglet from the spring is still being treated at the Virginia Wildlife Center for avian pox and a deformed beak that resulted from a pox lesion.

The couple abandoned two eggs early in the breeding season when a young female eagle disrupted the nest. Two more eggs were laid, but were broken and lost when something startled the nesting female.

The Eagle Cam, which provides live streaming video of the eagles 24 hours a day, is being moved to the new location as well.
