DAVE AND ROSE Holloman bought rocking chairs long before their new house was completed in Parkside at Bennett's Creek.
Now the couple, who moved in July 2007, is enjoying their home and its front porch.
The Hollomans hadn't planned on moving from the 2,000-square-foot condominium they built in Virginia Beach eight years ago, but Rose's long work commute to Suffolk changed their minds.
"We knew absolutely nothing about Suffolk, but we learned about the development in the paper," said Dave, 55.
After visiting the community developed in 2006 by LM Sandler and Sons and built by Chesapeake Homes, the Hollomans were sold.
With eight models ranging from 1,960 to 3,275 square feet and three elevation choices, including four with rear-loading garages, homebuyers have a wide selection from which to choose.
When complete, the community will have 185 single-family homes.
Ed Holster, site agent with Rose & Womble Realty, said Parkside at Bennett's Creek's location is a major selling point.
The neighborhood is just south of Route 17 and west of Interstate 664.
"It's an extremely convenient location, yet with a peaceful park-like atmosphere," Holster said.
The community said junior-size Olympic and kiddie pools, a cabana building, playground, walking trails, dog park and two lakes. A clubhouse with fitness center, great room, kitchen and picnic area are on the horizon.
For newlyweds Justin and Miranda Basdikis, Parkside at Bennett's Creek was a dream come true.
"The minute I saw it, I called my husband and told him I found our house. "It's a cute community that's being set up at the end of the road," said Miranda, 28.
The Basdikises were renting an apartment in Harbour Breeze before they moved into their Marquette model in August 2007.
"It's a great family place. We're making a lot of good friends already, and we plan on staying here a long time," Miranda said.
T he Hollomans share those sentiments.
"We thought our previous home would be our home forever," Dave said.
Now Parkside at Bennett's Creek may very well be.
