Today marks the busiest mailing day of the year for the U.S. Postal Service.

The last day to ship Priority Mail to international destinations has passed, but there’s still time to get domestic packages and cards to their destinations on time, according to the U.S. Postal Service Web site. First-Class and Priority Mail headed for locations in the U.S. is Dec. 20.

Dec. 18 is the deadline for sending packages to military bases overseas, the site says.

For those last-minute items, Express mail can be used until the 23rd, the Web site says.

Post offices will be closed on Dec. 25.

The postal service says that from Thanksgiving to Christmas, it will handle 19 billion cards, packages and other items.
