VIRGINIA BEACH

Two sisters, ages 2 and 3, were critically hurt Tuesday afternoon when a tractor trailer ran into the back of a Toyota Corolla stopped at a red light.

The crash happened at 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of General Booth Boulevard and Hubbell Drive, according to police spokesman Adam Bernstein.

The sisters were in the back seat in forward-facing child seats, Bernstein said. They were both in critical condition Tuesday night at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, Bernstein said.

Neither driver was hurt, he said. The Corolla apparently was driven by the girls' mother, he said.

No charges had been filed, but the crash remained under investigation.
