Wholesome stocking stuffers from Bees and Blossoms

OK, y’all. We are coming right down to the tinsel. We’ve gotta get those gift lists done.

So my gift to you today is an idea for a fabulous stocking stuffer (or all-purpose present) that you can feel good about buying and giving.

It’s a bit offbeat, but how about signing someone up for the “granola bar of the month club.” Waaaayyy up and over in Providence Forge, Va., Scott and Sallie Mitchell, owners of Bees and Blossoms,  make honeys, jellies and the best granola bars I’ve ever eaten.

You can look at these bars and see the organic goodness . . . oats, peanuts, whole almonds and sunflower seeds. The Mitchell’s main gig is their honey, which sweetens the mix.

Flavors include Honey Peanut and Bee Pollen, Honey Pistachio and Apricot and Honey Cinnamon Apple Caramel.

Sallie Mitchell said that she and her husband started making granola bars at their place because they couldn’t find a bar that would sustain them during long mornings in their fields tending the bees.

I can attest that these bars have staying power! Sign up for the club for 3 months ($108) or 6 months ($216), plus shipping. That will get an assortment of one dozen bars delivered each month. If you'd rather just buy a bar or two, they are $3.25 each.

That would be a welcome arrival in the bleak days of February or March, don’t you think? Sallie said that lots of parents order them for their college-bound kids.
