VIRGINIA BEACH

Virginia Beach police have identified the man killed in a vehicle roll-over Monday night as Matthew Lee Burnette, 25, of Knotts Island, N.C.

Burnette was a passenger in a truck driven by Allan James Tauchen, 25, of the 5300 block of Blackwater Road in Virginia Beach, police said. Tauchen was charged with involuntary manslaughter and DUI after the truck rolled over in the 2700 block of Seaboard Road, police said.

The truck was headed south on Seaboard and was headed around a curve when it ran off the right side of the road, said Margie Long, a police spokeswoman. Tauchen overcorrected and the truck rolled over, ejected Burnette and landed on top of him.

Burnette died at the scene. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt, Long said. Tauchen was wearing a seatbelt, she said.

Tauchen was being held in jail with no bond allowed. The crash remains under investigation, a police news release said.
