A lucky few saw glimpses of snow this morning as a cloud plume developed over the Chesapeake Bay. That did not last long.
The National Weather Service office in Wakefield received two reports of snow flurries in Norfolk between 7 and 9 a.m. with no accumulation.
As the mercury remained below freezing, meteorologist James Foster said there was no further chance of snow flurries today. This afternoon, temperature will fall into the upper 20’s under increasingly cloudy skies and light winds.
By Sunday, much of the region will remain overcast. There is a 50 percent chance of rain during the morning and into the evening. The highs should be near 46 degrees with winds from the southwest.
Pipes and sprinkler heads at houses and apartments across Virginia Beach burst on Saturday, said Battalion Chief Dave Hutcheson of the city's fire department.
Pipes froze, then burst after the temperature got higher, he said.
