Old Dominion University doesn’t play its first I-AA football game until the fall of 2009, but there’s plenty going on between now and then. Virginian-Pilot reporter Rich Radford will be covering the Monarchs’ road back to Foreman Field.

Candlelight service to honor Robinson Monday

Osric Robinson (left) came to Old Dominion's football team as a walk-on. We'll never see him play at Foreman Field, and that's the cruelty of life as we know it. He had dreams of playing football for the Monarchs and maybe even earning a scholarship.  He died in a car accident on his trip home to Alma, Ga., for the holiday break.

A burial fund has been set up and contributions can be sent to:

After his death, one of his uncles found this note in his wallet:

"Every day the choices that I decide to make helps determine who I am and my future. My goal is to become more consistent on a daily basis by improving where I see the need for improvement and not ignoring it."

On Monday evening at 6:15 in front of Webb Center, friends of Osric are asked to gather for a candlelight memorial.
