Chesapeake man indicted in Norcom football player's killing

CHESAPEAKE

A grand jury has indicted a 23-year-old Chesapeake man in the fatal shooting of Rashawn Finney, who was a senior at Portsmouth’s I.C. Norcom High.

Jarrel Dufore Eldridge, of the 3100 block of Aaron Drive in the Camelot area of Chesapeake, faces charges of first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and use of a firearm in the offense. He is being held without bail in the Chesapeake Correctional Center.

Finney was shot Sept. 12 in the 1100 block of Excalibur Street in Chesapeake, police said. Eldridge was arrested Sept. 20, and an initial charge of malicious wounding was upgraded when Finney died from his injuries. 

Finney was a receiver on the Norcom football team.
