A Chesapeake man wanted on a charge of first-degree murder in Tennessee was being held at Chesapeake City Jail on Sunday without bond.
In October, a Sullivan County, Tenn., grand jury indicted Abrey Wayne Fortner, 31, of Deep Creek in the September slaying of a 41-year-old Bluff City, Tenn., man. Arthur Theodore Burchard Jr.'s body was found with his throat cut.
Fortner was being held on seven probation violations from Chesapeake, including burglary, possessing burglary tools, attempted malicious wounding and concealing stolen property. He also was being held on abduction and malicious wounding charges from Isle of Wight County, according to the Chesapeake City Jail.
He was extradited from North Carolina to the Chesapeake jail on Friday.
