Ex-DNC chair McAuliffe to run for governor

Posted to: News Virginia

Terry McAuliffe is a former Democratic National Committee chairman who also chaired Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

In an e-mail to supporters today, Terry McAuliffe officially confirmed his candidacy for governor.

McAuliffe, 51, posted a video on his campaign web site, www.terrymcauliffe.com, today announcing his plans to seek the Democratic nomination.

The announcement has long been expected and was considered a fait accompli.

He joins two other candidates who are seeking the party nod: state Sen. Creig Deeds, D-Bath; and former Alexandria state Del. Brian Moran.

A former Democratic National Committee chairman, McAuliffe has campaigned across the state in recent months, though he had not publicly declared his political intentions until today.

McAuliffe, who also chaired Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, is scheduled to launch his campaign Wednesday morning in Hampton Roads.

Whomever emerges with the Democratic nomination will face Republican Bob McDonnell, the current attorney general and a former state Delegate from Virginia Beach, in the November election.

A Clinton clone

This guy is nothing but a Clinton clone, northern carpetbagger and sycophant...if he wins its time to move to North Carolina!

with all due respect

This guy is about as qualified to be the gov. of this state as obammy is to be prez, maybe more so. Let's see if we continue down the road of self destruction that we are now on with the last election. Don't forget to give your neighbor or work-mate a fist bump today to celebrate the "chosen ones" arrival in Washington!

right on, gn

I agree. It would be nice to have a native run, someone who has the best interests of the Commonwealth in mind. Instead, we have had a succession of people using the Virginia governorship as a stepping stone to national prominence. Kaine has been selected to be DNC chair, which means he will spend less time trying to fix Virginia's problems. Much like all of the time he spent working to get Obama elected instead of governing. Frankly, I don't know if Kaine has been a good governor or not - he hasn't been around enough for me to tell.

Untrustworthy

Everytime I have listened to him on the Sunday talk shows, the hair on the back of my neck stands up. There is just something untrustworthy about everything that comes out of his mouth. What did VA do to deserve this kind of politician?

I am soooo sorry to read of

I am soooo sorry to read of this!

I SAY..

please o please Terry move to NY and run for Hillary's Senate seat. You are welcomed there....

Oh No!!

We don't need any more Clinton dynasty members or carpetbaggers running our state government. Hopefully a honest qualified Virginian will be our next governor.

Unqualified is an understatement

McAuliffe is nothing but a Clinton-era stooge. He has as little or less experience than Nobama, he's nearly as liberal as Nobama (terrifying), and he doesn't know much about VA except that it's close to DC and voted Democrat for the first time in decades. What's the motivation here?

You know, if he is eventually on the ballot for governor, I almost hope he wins. In fact, let's see if we can make a clean sweep of all governments in the country, making them all liberal wrecking balls of society. Once the liberals have had a chance to destroy the US and state constitutions, strip us of civil liberties and rights, and impose socialism on every last citizen in this country, we should be just about ready for a revolt!

It will take that much to get liberal/Democratic supporters' heads out of the sand and realize that those they elected are destroying freedom, destroying capitalism, and destroying our way of life. I didn't vote for socialism, but those of you that did deserve what's coming your way while the rest of us have to suffer through. Democracies only last about 200 years; it's nearing the time to renew ours!

partisanship and origin aside

McAuliffe is still unqualified, and the wrong fit for Virginia.

Why Not Vote Virginian?

Just what we need another New Yorker living in Northern Virginia who now thinks he is a Virginian and should impose his political will on us.
It's time for Virginia and Virginians to look to our own for leadership.

What A Succession

Here we have a Hillary Clinton campaign manager who wants to replace a governor who endorsed our president-elect Barack Obama back in February 2007. Lets see how both Tim Kaine and Terry McAuliffe will work together after he wins in June.

I can just hear it now

All those lawyers recounting votes till Terry wins. Got to love those democrats!

Flaming Liberal

I thought this fraud was gone. I guess he feels Virginia is full blown Liberal now and he can find a home to further the agenda! Change you can believe in.....mmm hmmm

Governor

Just what we need, another loser!

The dem's sure do like retreads don't they?

The Obama is rife with Clintonians, Mark Warner is our new Senator and now McAuliffe wants to be our next Governor. He gave (as chairman of the DNC) $5 million to help Kaine get elected. I wonder how much loot Dean will give to his campaign. Bill Clinton wants to replace his wife in the Senate. Where's the "Change" we heard so much about? Where are all the fresh ideas from Obama? At least now we shouldn't be seeing MoveOn.org commercials for awhile...
