Voting 289-139, the House on Wednesday sent the Senate a bill (HR3963) that would expand State Children's Health Insurance Program coverage from 6.6 million children to about 11 million.

Voting 179-247, the House on Wednesday rejected an alternative to HR3963 that sought to prevent states from expanding insurance coverage until they cover at least 90 percent of children from families with incomes of less than $40,000.

Voting 42-52, the Senate on Thursday refused to block the release of $350 billion from the $700 billion bailout.

Voting 72-23, senators on Thursday opened debate on a bill (S181) that would give plaintiffs greater standing to file suits alleging pay bias.

A yes vote was to advance the bill.
