About this data
This project is based on data from the Virginia War Memorial and the Library of Virginia. The Virginia War Memorial provided The Virginian-Pilot with a list of service members on the memorial. This list was cross-referenced with the Library of Virginia's database of Virginia Military Dead, which contains details on each service member from Virginia who has died in wartime.
Not all the names from the Virginia War Memorial were able to be matched to a name in the Library of Virginia's database. In cases where a match could not be made, some information about a service member (including cause of death, rank and gender) is not included in this project.
