Rich Radford blogging this time.
OK, I'm going to show my age here: When I see Keyon Carter pop out to the 3-point line and pop an trey, he reminds me of Chuck Person.
If you don't remember Person, he played at Auburn along side Charles Barkley. Person ended up being named NBA rookie of the year in 1987 and his nickname was "The Rifleman." It was a two-part nickname. Part one was that he was a serious long-range threat; the other part is that he was named Chuck Connors Person, after the actor who played "The Rifleman" on TV.
Person even had a triple-double in his rookie year with the Pacers. You can look it up (I did).
Anyway, Person made 1,220 career 3-pointers in the NBA. And he was 6-foot-8. Keyon Carter is 6-8 or 6-9, depending on what pair of shoes he's wearing that day.
And I remember every time Person shot from beyond the arc I'd say to myself, "What's he doing taking that ... (swish) ... shot?"
Those of you who regularly read this blog might remember a time about 30 months ago when I blogged that Carter had made eight consecutive 3-pointers in a pickup game before practice started in the fall of 2006.
I remember people riding me for making a big deal of that when Carter was then summarily ... red-shirted.
All I've got to say after he nailed his first five 3-pointers at William and Mary on Monday is, "told ya so!"
Let me add a "nanny-nanny, boo-boo." (I've got my thumbs in my ears and I'm waving my hands at my computer screen. Well, I was until I needed to write that sentence).
The Rifleman lives!
You were right, I was wrong
I'm stupid. You're smart. I was wrong. You were right. You're the best. I'm the worst. You're very good looking. I'm not very attractive.
