Local rumored to be 'American Idol' contestant
Some people love the beginning of each season of "American Idol" - and some people are like me - they try to avoid it, but it somehow manages to suck you in. But honestly, I'm enjoy "Idol" when they narrow it down to top 10, or even top 5, because then you know the contestants are good and they've already weeded out all the pitiful crooners who think they have talent but are merely getting air time for comedic reasons. Sad, but true.
Well, the new season kicked off it's auditions Tuesday and Wednesday night and rumor has it that a local (alright, so just outside HR), Elizabeth City native, Ricky Braddy, is in top 50.
Fox tries everything it can to keep contestants from the press, but when the network showed "American Idol" TV ads and website ads pumping up the new season with Ricky's mug, speculations went a-flying that a N.C. guy would get his shot at Kodak Theater.
According to a story in the Daily Advance, Ricky can't comment or interview - yet - but other sources can. Local band Out’n the Cold stated in a recent band newsletter that Braddy is slated to appear on the show.
“One more hometown talent from the Elizabeth City area making it big ... is young Mr. Ricky Braddy.” The newsletter said. “Ricky is in the final 50 for this year’s 'American Idol.'”
And, Nashville musician Martin Parker said Ricky's musical abilities were right on par.
“He’s got the whole package — he’s great. He’s a good songwriter,” Parker said. “In my opinion, he’s going to go all the way. He’ll end up with a record deal either way.”
So here's to rooting for Ricky and N.C. in this upcoming season!
