Novel is intriguing mystery

Posted to: Life

By Jennifer Morben Teen correspondent Reading Courtney Summers’ book, “Cracked Up to Be,” is an incredible literary experience. Enthralling and enrapturing, this novel is a must read.

This book shows the true emotions and problems hidden beneath the teenage attitude. In this book, Parker Fadley, who was once the most popular girl in school, battles not only the normal horrors of high school, but the unique situation of having a missing best friend. This situation threatens to overcome her completely as this already unstable girl slowly slips from reality, which is what this book will help you do.

With the unnerving resemblance of a nightmare, “Cracked Up to Be” is an alternate, slightly depressing dimension of reality. It shows the dramatic circumstances Parker faces, while, at the same time, asking you what you would do if you were in her shoes.

Obviously not an everyday situation, the plot behind this book still manages to transcend that confinement and allows readers to connect to it, as everyone has self-doubts and is searching for themselves. This book   encourages the reader to continue in their own unending quest.

“Cracked Up to Be” is a book you just cannot stop reading. Summers keeps this novel a mystery until the end. One drawback is that the book happens to contain serious situations that are not intended for the light of heart; this is definitely a book for older teens. If you are ready for this book though, definitely check it out. It will be a slightly new experience for some readers, but I can guarantee it will be a good one.
