Obama's cookies, coming right up!
OK, so he looks great in a suit, but does the man who will take the oath of office today really have good taste?
To find out, we placed an order for a bunch of chocolate chunk cookies from the recently-rocketed-into-the-spotlight Baby Boomers bakery in Iowa. This is the cookie that the Obamas apparently became fond of during the campaign. I've read that the soon-to-be First Family continues to order them.
The cookies arrived at my house over the weekend, packed by the dozen in oblong boxes and sealed into Zip-Loc baggies. First know this: they weigh a ton - up 3 ounces each. (That's nearly a quarter-pound, if you want to think of it that way.) Why, if everyone who is converging on Washington, D.C. today for the inauguration had one in each coat pocket, they'd be set for the day, foodwise.
The bakery isn't divulging the recipe . . . but they are selling tons of cookies as evidenced by them setting up a website just for the cookie.
Noooo problem-o. Later today, I'll be delivering a dozen to C.C. Martinez, owner of Silver Spoon Bakery over in Portsmouth. She'll deconstruct the cookie and develop a recipe so that we can all feel a little presidential this winter.
Stay tuned . . . and stay warm!
