VIRGINIA BEACH
The Virginia Beach Friends School has chosen a new leader.
Edward Hollinger, who heads the upper division at the New Garden Friends School in Greensboro, N.C., has been chosen to lead the preK-12 Quaker school as it embarks on a campaign to rebuild at a new, eco-friendly site.
As vice chair of the redevelopment authority in Lancaster County, Pa., Hollinger helped manage the construction of a $23.4 million stadium for the Lancaster Barnstormers baseball team in 2004.
Hollinger, who will be known to the school community as Teacher Ed, has also been a college advisor, a public school assistant principal and a teacher and athletic director at a Mennonite school in Pennsylvania.
His experience with teaching, administration, capital campaigns, land acquisition, green building and Quaker education make him a good fit for the Beach school, according to a letter sent to the school community by the search committee.
Hollinger will visit the school Friday and start as Head of School on July 1.
