Two men were arrested after they were accused of breaking into several homes at the Oceanfront, police said.
Jonathan Ash, 26, and Cain Nicholas Jones, 46, both of the 1100 block of Pacific Avenue, were charged on Thursday with a series of burglaries, including a theft from the parish house at Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Christmas Day.
Investigators are also trying to determine whether Ash and Jones were responsible for several other burglaries.
According to police spokesman Adam Bernstein, two community police officers were patrolling about 9:30 p.m. when they noticed the men coming from bushes between two houses in the 400 block of Lakewood Circle.
Police said they stopped the men because they matched the description of possible suspects in several burglaries in the neighborhood. At least one of them had a screwdriver, flashlight and knife, Bernstein said.
Ash was charged with breaking and entering with the intent to commit a felony, and he had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court for a misdemeanor. He is being held at the city jail on a $3,600 combined secured bond.
Jones faces charges of breaking and entering with the intent to commit a felony and possession of burglary tools. His bail is being withheld.
