Va. expects up to $800M in federal funds for transportation

The state expects to receive $700 million to $800 million in federal funds for transportation improvements from President Barack Obama's economic stimulus plan, according to David Ekern, director of the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Ekern declined to identify projects earmarked for the money, despite repeated efforts Wednesday by members of the House Appropriations Committee.

It is premature to list projects, Ekern said, because the Obama administration has not settled on a definite amount of money for Virginia, nor has its released regulations detailing how the money must be spent.
