Vicki Cronis-Nohe's favorite photograph for 2008

My favorite shot of the year for the paper was of Javon Creekmore, a school custodian in Virginia Beach. He is one of the everyday heroes I found in our community. The image is of a student whispering the name of the girl he ha s a crush on. Rarely do I get a picture that just nails who a person is. Creekmore is the head custodian at Princess Anne Elementary – that’s his job title. But who he is, well, he’s so much more to the students there. As they say, he is their adult best friend. They trust and love him. I think the intimacy of the photo conveys that.
