VIRGINIA BEACH

A Virginia Beach man faces charges after police said he pulled out a rifle and fired it into the air in front of two police detectives on Thursday.

The incident happened Thursday morning at 8:13 a.m. in the parking lot of a closed restaurant in the 700 block of Lynnhaven Pkwy., police said.

Two detectives were parked at a former Bennigan's restaurant when they saw a man working under the hood of a pickup truck. While they watched, the man went into the truck, pulled out a rifle and fired it once into the sky, according to police.

The detectives identified themselves and arrested the man, who did not resist, police said.

James Alan Skrabacz, 38, of the 700 block of Cambelton Drive, is charged with discharging a firearm in public.
