Virginia's new congressmen being sworn in today

Posted to: News Virginia

RICHMOND, Va.

Virginia is officially getting four new members of Congress today. All are Democrats.

Former Gov. Mark Warner will take the seat of retiring Sen. John Warner during swearing-in ceremonies today in Washington, D.C. The Warners are not related.

Also taking the oath of office are new U.S. House members Glenn Nye of the 2nd District, Tom Perriello of the 5th District and Gerald Connolly of the 11th District. Their victories in November gave Democrats a 6-5 advantage in Virginia's U.S. House delegation.

I am happy!

Drake was not doing her job-bottom line!!! So Mr. Nye won that seat!!! She was terrible and I am glad she is gone, and good luck to Mr. Nye! One term was one term too many with Drake!

All Democrats? No big surprise there

As the Washington Posts asks today, "The way republicans are attacking themselves, who needs Democrats?"

"You have republicans scratching their head, going: "Who are we? What do we believe in? What do we stand for?" said Michael Steele, former Lt. Gov. of Maryland.

"The hypocrisy, more than anything else, has killed our party," agreed Saul Anuzis, chairman of the Michigan republicans. "We had become the bums."

Both men want to be the next RNC chairman.

And columnist E. J. Dionne Jr., notes: "It turns out to be much easier for Democrats than republicans to reach out to moderates because Democrats are a more ideologically diverse party."

I say, God bless every republican clod that uses the term RINO.

One Term Congressman!

I would be willing to bet that Glenn Nye will be a one term congressman for the 2nd district. The next election in 2010 will be an off-year election and this should favor the republicans. Also, Nye will not have the Obama vote to help him out next time around.
