This time, it may actually happen.

According to the National Weather Service, there was a 70 percent chance of snow overnight and a whopping 90 percent chance Wednesday.

Snowfall accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible in Hampton Roads and northeastern North Carolina, according to the weather service. The snow was expected to begin after midnight Tuesday and continue through Wednesday morning.

VDOT will continue to monitor road conditions throughout the night and Wednesday.

A low-pressure system was expected to move east along the Virginia-North Carolina border Tuesday night and early Wednesday.

Weather on Thursday and Friday is expected to be sunny and cold, with highs in the mid-30s.

Nice work changing your forecast predictions, Pilot. Wuss!

I would tend to give my support to local weather forecasters, if they hadn't been a part of the decision to close schools a couple of weeks ago. Weather is hard to predict and I understand that as someone involved in aviation. However, that morning I heard the "13" weatherman give an interview on Tommy and Rumble (98.7 fm). For one, although he thought he was kidding, he made it sound as if he was the most important person in the world and had to hold for 90 seconds. I know he tried to make it sound humorous but was very pompous. Secondly he stated that school districts were calling him and asking him for advice. That leads me to believe that local weather forecasters were partially to blame for that day's cancellations, as I had heard by 0545 that all school districts had canceled for the entire Hampton Roads area. It's not to say that they weren't giving the schools boards the best information they had available to them, but that the decision was made extremely early. Now they are under criticism, and that is why media such as the Pilot has put titles on their online articles such as "National Weather Service calls for snow" and "90% chance of snow." Sad. They back t

Whiners!

Most all of the comments on here sound like whiners. I don't mind if they predict it and it doesn't come. Who wants to be on the roads in this area with the way people drive. I sure don't. If any of you whiners on here want to do the meteorologists jobs, please do, so we can laugh at you. Weather is not an exact science and never will be. They base their predictions on weather patterns, that are not controlled by us on earth.

Nauticus

You know what would be cool if school is cancelled tomorrow? I think it would be cool to go to Nauticus in downtown Norfolk. They have this cool sphere thing that's like a giant earth and you can see live satellite imagery on it. So, you would be able to see the snow! I mean, they have lots of other cool stuff too, but that seems like it would fit in nicely with the weather, right?

Radar, clear. Pressure,

Radar, clear. Pressure, steady. Humidity, decreasing. Skies, clear. Temps, above freezing. Weather guessers in HRDS, PRICELESS!

70 - 90 percent chance of Snow ! Heaven Forfend !

1 - 2 whole inches of it! Wow... Call out the National Guard... We're headed for a disaster!!!

But then there's also a 10 - 30 percent chance the weather will be cancelled due to lack of interest...

I feel the same way

But to be fair, Don Slater on Ch 10 kept saying that the forecast could change any minute, that the system was volatile. Too bad everyone around here didn't pay attention.

The National Weather Service

The National Weather Service, up until 5pm on Inauguration Day, continued to predict 3-5 inches in the HR area. Their prediction never changed.

I tell you what, in the morning, I'll look out the window and then come and report what I see. I bet you I get it right. :)

100%

Last time it said there was a 100% chance of snow, and guess what?....It didn't happen. So I will believe it when I see it!

Riiiiiiggggghhhhhttt.

Uh, no. Not gonna happen. Everybody knows there is an atmospheric phenomenon over the South Hampton Roads area that stifles the development of storms. Snow Storms, Thunderstorms, hurricanes, all that stuff, they pick the lower 5 of the 7 cities to fall apart on. Ill believe Obama's next pick for cabinet WONT have tax issues over the possibility of us getting snow.

"contradict the other story about global warming?"

One storm contradicts an overall theory of global warming like one day without any serious crimes negates any need for guns for personal protection.
