A motorist who was hospitalized early Saturday after the car he was driving collided with a Suffolk police cruiser has been released from the hospital, an official said.
The crash happened just after midnight on College Drive at Western Freeway/Route 164.
A Suffolk police officer was driving his car north on College Drive with lights and sirens on as he responded to a call to back up another officer at a traffic stop, said city spokeswoman Debbie George.
The officer collided at the intersection with a vehicle driven by Aric Dickens, 19, of Suffolk, who was driving on Route 164, George said.
Dickens was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and released later in the day, she said. The officer was not hurt.
The crash remains under investigation, George said.
