Football: Cox kicker headed to Virginia

Posted to: High Schools Sports

Cox’s Drew Jarrett, the all-time leading placekicker in South Hampton Roads, has committed to Virginia.

Jarrett made his decision Monday afternoon, deciding on the Cavaliers after narrowing his list of favorites to also include James Madison and Virginia Tech. He’ll be a walk-on at U.Va. and hope to earn a scholarship.

“I figured that Virginia was my best option because it would probably be the place I could play the quickest,” Jarrett said. “It also provided me a place that has really an outstanding academics reputation. That weighed heavily on my decision.”

Jarrett finished his high school career with 29 field goals – the most in South Hampton Roads and fourth in the state. As a senior Jarrett made 12 kicks, including a 54-yarder. He also has a 50-yarder, giving him two of the top five kicks in South Hampton Roads history.
