House fire closes road, injures two in Rodanthe

Posted to: News North Carolina

A house fire in Rodanthe forced emergency officials to close N.C. 12 this morning while firefighters fought for nearly two hours to get the flames consuming the old wood-frame residence under control.

Two female occupants of the house suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to a report from the office of Dare County Fire Marshal Doug Remaley. They were taken by helicopter to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

The Chicamacomico fire department was assisted by firefighters from Salvo and Avon.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the blaze, reported at 7:34 a.m, was likely started unintentionally by careless smoking, the report said.
