On Madoff client list: Malkovich, Koufax, 5 local residents

NEW YORK

Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax. Broadcaster Larry King. Actor John Malkovich. World Trade Center developer Larry Silverstein.

All have at least one thing in common: Their names appear on a list of several thousand clients of financial wizard Bernard Madoff. The list has been made public in a filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan.

The 162-page list emerged late Wednesday, testament to the sweeping nature of the alleged fraud.

It includes Madoff's relatives, prominent business people, celebrities and charitable institutions. The list does not say how much money the customers may have lost, nor does it spell out their specific connection to Madoff.

Compiled for a court-appointed trustee in the Madoff case, the list includes thousands of people and entities listed in the money manager's records as account holders during the 12-month period leading up to his arrest in December. It also includes scores of others who called an investor hot line set up by the Securities Investor Protection Corp.

Many of the people who lost money with Madoff did so through feeder funds that turned the money over to the New York money manager. Their names would not have been listed individually in Madoff's books, and would be included in the court's list only if they have stepped forward to make claims.

Prosecutors say Madoff admits he lost more than $50 billion belonging to investors. Defense lawyers say he has cooperated with authorities to help identify assets.

Another name on the list is Ira Sorkin, the attorney who's defending Madoff. But Sorkin said he did not lose money in the scandal.

Write to Congress expressing anger in regards to the SEC's handling of the Madoff Fraud:

Below are instructions in regards to a website that has been developed to generate letters to Congress; the site is user-friendly with sending letters to Congress; how to access ANY Senator & House Representative, including those that only use "webmail". Within the website, you have the option to be listed as a Madoff VICTIM, a RELATIVE of a Madoff Victim or a FRIEND of a Madoff Victim:

1) Go to: http://www.bernard-madoff-fraud-resources.com/
write_to_you_rep_madoff_fraud.php
2) You will find a drop-down menu at the above site for your respective State. All Senators and Congressional Representatives' email addresses that have been garnered are listed.
3) If your State"s Congressional reps are listed great; if not or if
for example only 1 Senator or no House Reps are listed then do the
following:
4) COPY the website's letter and then go to the following 2 sites to PASTE:
US SENATE http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm
US HOUSE https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml
5) each of the above sites will lead you to your respective Senators

victims??

I have sympathy for those that were bilked via investments in "feeder funds". I have no sympathy for the high flying country club investors who invested directly with Madoff. They were part of the "in crowd" and had a secret super investment manager, by invitation only. It is certainly awful to lose it all, but then again it was too good to be true. Perhaps future generations will learn, but after Enron, Worldcom, Adelphia, Global Crossing, etc, one would have thought those lessons were learned.
