CHESAPEAKE

A jury this afternoon acquitted a Portsmouth man who had been accused of trying to run over a Chesapeake police officer.

Prosecutors contended that Jeremy J. Ross drove his car through a speed bump and stop sign in an attempt to run down a Chesapeake police officer in October in a South Norfolk mobile-home park.

The defense argued Ross had been in a domestic dispute, drawing a crowd outside. Realizing a group of men was coming after him, Ross sped off in his car, past Officer Ravi Sheth, Dunn said.
