AHOSKIE, N.C.

A 33-year-old man died early this morning following a fight at a bar.

Detrick Lamont White of Ahoskie was struck in the head with an object during a fight at Chubbies in the 1000 block of Jersey Street at about 1 a.m., said Lt. Jeremy Roberts. White was taken to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and later airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where he died.

Derrick McKinley Watford, 32, of Colerain, was charged with second-degree murder and was being held in the Hertford County Jail on a $750,000 bond.

Roberts said White and Watford were the only two people involved in the fight and it was unclear how it started.
