Man faces murder charge in 2007 Beach killing

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on charges he shot a man in front of a Lake Edward North townhouse more than a year ago.

Frederick L. Jones was taken into custody on a fugitive warrant in New York and returned to the city Monday, where he faces felony charges of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and brandishing or pointing a firearm.

Jones is accused of killing Vernon Lee “Pee Wee” Turner Jr., who was found within a fenced-in yard at the townhouse near the corner of Fanshaw Court and Hampshire Place on Oct. 23, 2007. The 31-year-old man, who lived on Banbury Court, died of an apparent gunshot wound.

Jones is being held in the city jail without bail.

The case remains under investigation.
