The Bank of Currituck wants to see more of its customers – literally – to deter crime.
Beginning today, the North Carolina bank will launch a “No Hats, No Hoods, No Sunglasses” policy. Patrons wearing those items will be asked to take them off.
“A ball cap pulled down low or sunglasses obviously hides some features,” said Matthew Converse, president and chief executive officer of the bank, which is based in Moyock and has six branches. “When somebody’s not obscured, it’s a whole lot easier to identify them.”
The idea is to reduce the chance of robberies, though Converse said the bank had not experienced any recently. Customers who refuse to comply still will be served, he said, “but everyone in the bank will be watching them a lot more closely.”

What about these massive pickup trucks that pull in front of the bank with a gun in the rack! It may seem like nothing to you but there are some who are very concerned. Run through the door/window and take what they want. And of course they will be wearing camoflauge(sp?) clothing. Long hair, long bears and pony tails. Your thinking is not the only thoughts of crime prevention and/or deterency. Give me a break.

Hey just check the Langley Credit Union robbery in York County, perp had a hat, a hoodie and sunglasses, but I'm sure that was coincidence, right? PC crap is going to kill this country.

While agree with comments below, I have to laugh for another reason. If you want to stop armed robberies for banks and jewelry stores, the single biggest deterrent is those doors that you walk around in a circle and push the door in front of you. Most banks in Europe other parts of the world use those doors and in some countries it is mandatory for banks. The thieves are afraid that once they go to leave they will be trapped in the circle behind bullet proof glass. And they would.
Employee training...
Perhaps their resources would be better utilized in training bank employees to be more observant. Someone who is there to rob the bank will exhibit tell-tale signs that can be seen.
Placing the responsibility on the law abiding citizens who are the “bread-n-butter” of those institutions is irresponsible. Yeah... it is just a little bit of liberty being taken away from the citizenry... this time.
All of this and for what... eye witnesses are not very reliable anyway.

I agree with the other poster that all the real crooks are running the banks, but really that's the fallacy of the whole fiat money system. Really our whole economy is a giant ponzi scheme. Everyone should boycott banks and credit cards.

Unfortunately there will be somebody who will be offended and scream profiling or that the policy is interfering with their rights and ability to "express themselves". Stick with it Mr. Converse.

GOOD COMMON SENSE POLICY
Congratulations to Mr. Converse - this is a step in the right direction. Hopefully the other banks will follow his example. Too bad the worst bank robbers these days are sitting in the CEO's offices.
