Portsmouth hatchet-slaying case headed to grand jury

PORTSMOUTH

The case against a Portsmouth man accused of the hatchet slaying of another man in a garage will be heard by the grand jury as the result of a preliminary hearing Monday.

Garry Darnell Saunders, 52, of the first block of Neville St., is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the New Year’s Day homicide.

The victim, Dwayne Alonzo Turner, 49, died as a result of 44 hatchet wounds to his head and torso, according to information from an autopsy report that came out during the hearing in General District Court.
