VIRGINIA BEACH

A group of religious and community leaders will hold a public discussion Friday at Virginia Wesleyan College to discuss immigration reform.

The Interfaith Immigration Coalition is hosting a vigil and roundtable discussion at 6 p.m. at the college’s Boyd dining center, 1584 Wesleyan Drive.

The event will include different points of view and endorse a humane treatment of immigrants, a press release said.

my response...

Well, it's already Friday, the forum has been held, and I'm ohh-so-patiently waiting for the talking media heads, or for those twits from the Downtown-Font-Of-Knowledge (The Virginian Pilot newsrag) to give us THEIR 'take' on this event. Remember this, folks: the news media will only ever tell you what THEY want you to know, and they will only tell it from THEIR perspective--that is, from their own, pre-conceived bias. There is no truth is news reporting. The Pilot makes no secret of its left-leaning, liberal orientation, and any commentary about immigration will most assuredly suggest that a conservative restriction on immigration would have serious economic implications, or would be uncharitable, reflect poorly on our Great American Heritage, or some such nonsense. I look forward to reading the article, and if I am wrong about my assessment, I'll find a way to tell you all. I may be cranky, but I'm not honest.

Why don't you withhold judgement, attend and WRITE the impartial, follow-up review of their forum?

Humane treatment

Humane treatment - Lets give then an air conditioned bus ride to the border......Keeping them here when entry was illegal is not humane and you know the religious fanatics will opt for that.

It's always interesting...

It's always interested to see what people here read into simple statements in pretty simple stories. I, for one, didn't see anything in the story about illegal immigrants.

Just about all of our ancestors were once teeming masses yearning to be free. Like most immigrants, they came and worked hard. They created what we know as the "American dream" and in turn embodied the concept of the United States as a welcoming place for those willing to work hard. Many of the greatest achievements of our nation have been made by immigrants or their descendants. That so many people continue to seek opportunity in our country is testimony to the enduring appeal of that dream.

What isn't consistent with a culture that believes its worth is measured by the way it treats the least among it is the inhumane treatment of anyone, including illegal immigrants in state and federal custody. Send them home, if they're illegal. But remember that many of your ancestors may have arrived the same way.

political korrectedness...???

Let's hope this quasi-religious 'flavoring', posturing, and pontificating over immigration includes a very frank dialogue about the effects of illegal immigration as well. I'm not at ALL sympathetic towards ANY group which wrings its hands and cries over the 'poor, desperate, impoverished, yearning-to-be-free' immigrants who ultimately seek only to bleed the U.S. taxpayer, and live off the public dole while seeking every benefit and advantage that they can wring from us. Every organization such as this has a certain, pre-disposed 'agenda', and the fact that the article hasn't quite disclosed it tells me that this forum is just another politically-correct, uber-liberal attempt by a whiny college-affiliated group to bash conservative efforts to responsibly curb illegal immigration. So far, I'm skeptical, I'm not impressed, and I'll withhold judgement pending an impartial, follow-up review of their forum.

DEPORT ! DEPORT !

If they are illegal, DEPORT THEM IMMEDIATELY !! I hope the illegals show up so someone can point them out to I.C.E. , and send them where they need to go......THEIR OWN COUNTRY !! Illegals get out of my country !!

Immigrant or illegal immigrant

If they are going to discuss legal immigration then fine. If they want humane treatment of illegal immigrants (code for allow them to remain here illegally), then we should humanely deport them.
