PORTSMOUTH

Portsmouth police used 15 undercover officers in sweeps against prostitution this past week, resulting in the arrests of six women - one of them twice.

The operations, conducted Feb. 4 and 9, targeted the Mount Hermon, Port Norfolk and Prentis Park neighborhoods, police reported Tuesday. Those arrested came from Portsmouth and Suffolk, and ranged in age from 29 to 48.

Soliciting for prostitution is a Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
