Jeff Lawson

Jeff, I realize it is hard to predict the weather, but PLEASE tell the "we need higher ratings" crowd at your station to stop hyping the weather. Especially since it is so hard to predict. All of the team coverage and hot air expended a couple of weeks ago for the supposed storm was irresponsible. Nothing more than a ratings grab.

Why is everyone so worked up?

As far as I can see, the weather was what it was supposed to be. I watched Channel 13 last night and this morning. They said snow in North Carolina and maybe a dusting north of that. Isn't that what happened?

But I echo the poster who asked why everyone's so worked up about this. As long as those folks are online maybe google "anger management" and "civility". I mean if you get this mad and nasty about weather how do you react to the serious stuff in life?

Pt 2 (since they cut the original post for length)

That same Monday our forecast for Tuesday night and Wednesday said "Scattered snow showers. ZERO to a dusting possible in spots". The capitalized portion has not been added for emphasis here in this post, that is how I presented it on TV that night.

Yesterday (Tuesday) I said the following. Again, the caps were in the forecast. "Scattered snow showers developing. Many spots will see NOTHING. A few locations could see an inch". I then verbally added that the best chance of that was in NC.

Thanks for your attention, and while we can't control what the other people say we want you to know that we work had everyday to give you the best forecast and while it is often different from the guys we stand by our record.

Snow forecasts

Hi Everyone- Jeff Lawson here from WVEC. Yes, that one - one of those stupid meteorologists. First of all, I want to say that I understand people's frustrations with the weather and the associated forecasting of these storms. However, I feel as someone said earlier that too many of you are lumping all of us together without realizing that there have been huge differences in the forecasts lately. Nobody gets the forecast right all the time and we are certainly no exception but in this case I feel I need to set the record straight.

First, let's address the Tuesday forecast which someone earlier said we all blew. I have no idea what everyone else called for because I usually don't pay any attention to other forecasts, but this is what we said for Tuesday. "Patchy light rain showers may mix with or briefly change to snow as they end. No accumulation is likely".

For those of you that might not have seen it, many spots reported light showers briefly changing to flurries on Tuesday.

That same Monday our forecast for Tuesday night and Wednesday said "Scattered snow showers. ZERO to a dusting possible in spots". The capitalized portion has not been added for emphasis here in thi

Snow... Where?

I have never seen such stupid weather people. They have not been right at all this year about snow. I think they all need to be fired and they need to hire someone who knows what they are doing. Either that or they need to get more accurate dopplar. Give me a break it can't be that impossible to get something right for once (they can't even do that).. DUH!!!

Why does it even matter?

Are your lives so guided by what you see and hear on televison that it's really that big a deal if the weather forecast is wrong? If that's ALL you've got to worry about I'd say most of you must live some pretty charmed lives. Besides, most of the forecasts did say that where the snowfall would occur, and how much, was uncertain, but that in the viewing area there would be some snow...and there was. A forecast is nothing more than an educated guess, and if that guess is wrong, MY world sure isn't going to come to an end.

Its Hampton Roads

Indeed, you have to wear clothes in layers during the winter. Run your heat in the morning and by the afternoon, blasting the A/C.

My sweats and sweaters are next to the shorts and tank tops. It is indeed a crapshoot forecasting the weather. Its a hard job to get it right, meanwhile a tornado just can whip up anywhere and wreck havoc, as we saw last April.

I think our location usually has something to do with this area usually missing the bad area. Meanwhile, across the HRBT they got 2 inches....lol. Maybe the water keeps us warmer? I dunno.

As for the kids and skuul, :), their safety and education is always paramount. Bus drivers go out in busses to their routes and determine road conditions in their neighborhood side streets. If they are snowy and icey, schools are closed or delayed.

Shocked

I cannot believe the schools are not closed. Do you realize how dangerous it could be with the possibility of snow and all those kids on school busses? Slipping and sliding all over the possible icy roads, bus accidents on every corner, and kids lives could be in jeopardy. The school system dropped the ball again by putting all those kids lives in possible harm.

Sounds pretty stupid huh? Go back to the story from the last possible winter storm (jan 20) and see all the similar posts. Where are all those posters lambasting the school system for not closing ..... just like they supported and justified the wrong as usual weather guessers and took other posters to task. Jon Cash was wrong then, and was wrong again last night. When will they be held to a higher standard?

Snow

There's a big blizzard here at TCC Va Beach...NOT! (Blizzard of '09, part 2? Sure John Cash...)

hot air about snow

they did the same thing last year, and every year for that matter and when it does snow, you wont hear about it in any forcast. all i hear is a bunch of hot air bloviating out of local forcasters mouths, its "breaking wind" not "breaking news".
