If you didn’t get out and enjoy Monday’s balmy weather, you may have missed your chance for a while.
A cold front was expected to bring much colder temperatures to the region Monday night and maybe a wintry mix of rain and snow today and Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, the cold front was expected to stall off the coast, leading to some overnight rain and maybe some snow mixed in.
The forecast for today included rain and possibly snow, with a 60 percent chance of precipitation and a high of 39. A small craft advisory and gale warning have been issued for coastal waters.
Rappahannock Community College, in Glenns, Va., was planning to open at 10 a.m. today, according to the school's Web site. No other delays or closures were reported.
Tonight there is a slight chance of snow flurries with temperatures in the low 30s, according to the weather service.
On Wednesday, there is another possibility of snow, although only a 20 percent chance, with temperatures in the high 30s and winds between 15 and 21 mph, making it feel even colder.
The Virginia Department of Transportation announced it would monitor road conditions beginning last night night and remain on alert through Wednesday.
The rest of the week should continue to be clear and cold, with temperatures in the 20s at night, although it’s expected to warm up to the low 50s on Friday.
And by the weekend, things will be looking up again with sunny skies and temperatures into the 60s.
