NORFOLK

An auction organized by the Auxiliary Board of St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children raised nearly $50,000 last month for the children and young adults who live there.

The auxiliary recently finalized the earnings, which will be used for summer camp scholarships and a mermaid statue, among other things.

The evening's highest bid, $5,000, was for a Norfolk mermaid, which will be decorated with the help of the children and will be displayed at St. Mary's.

St. Mary's is the only pediatric long-term-care residential facility of its size and scope in Virginia.
