Coast Guard to show off new multipurpose boat

Posted to: Military

YORKTOWN

The Coast Guard will demonstrate its newest boat this morning at its training center.

The vessel, a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium, or RB-M, is a multipurpose boat designed to operate both close to shore and up to 50 nautical miles out to sea, according to a news release.

The self-righting aluminum boat is able to reach speeds of 46 mph and offer more maneuverability than the boats it is replacing.

The Coast Guard intends to use the boat for search and rescue, homeland security and law enforcement missions. The training center's RB-M is the seventh built.
