An inmate who had escaped Sunday while working on a sheriff’s office work detail at the Virginia Beach Convention Center is back in deputies’ custody.

James Andrew Harris III, 37, was reported missing Sunday at 8:53 p.m. by the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office.

Acting on a tip, deputies found Harris at an Oceanfront hotel Tuesday night at 8:25 p.m. and arrested him, said Paula Miller, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.

According to state court records, Harris was convicted in November in Virginia Beach Circuit Court of a third DUI in five years, driving on a revoked license and eluding police. He now faces a felony escape charge.
