Exploding space junk? Prove it.
Even if you could, which you can't, space debris is among the least interesting of the theories for what whooshed through Hampton Roads around 10 p.m. Sunday.
It could have been, of course, a meteor, a UFO, the second coming of Christ, a fighter jet that crashed, a North Korean intercontinental missile, or perhaps a Hollywood publicity stunt. None of which you would ever get confirmed, because of a conspiracy between the government and the media to black out the news.
Online commenters suggested all of that, plus a few other possibilities, Monday.
If it was aliens, posters debated whether they would be seeking overweight people or skinny people to eat.
"Obviously," wrote one commenter on The Virginian-Pilot story about the mysterious fireball in the sky, "a highly intelligent race capable of traveling the vast distances of space would be on a low-fat diet so I'm not too worried about being an item on their evening buffet. Some of my ultra lean friends, however, may want to pack up their hybrids and head west."
Another person suggested that, having done a lot of research since Sunday night, perhaps what many people heard and saw was a secret government airplane called the Aurora, which you can find by typing "Aurora Aircraft" into Google, which means the secret's out.
Some questioned not the government but themselves.
"The lights lingered like the flash of an out-dated camera," a commenter wrote. "Thinking about it for a minute, I realized it was right over the treetops and there is no way a helicopter would be that low. Then I thought outloud in a rather indifferent manner: 'I just saw a UFO.' My father probably thought I was on drugs..."
Someone posting under the name "Hushhush" was driving along South Independence Boulevard, blasting music from 96X and saw four bright flashes, but the radio drowned out any sound. Hushhush wanted to know why people from Delaware to North Carolina reported hearing and seeing something, but only two newspapers covered it:
"So basically the Richmond Times and the Virginia Pilot have something about this, and all the huge papers don't. This smells like a coverup people."
A man saying he was from Norfolk had a more provincial conspiracy in mind: "They will probably close the midtown tunnel until they figure out what it was."
On the Web site www.godlikeproductions.com, a proclaimed home of conspiracy theorists and lunatics, someone figured that if it was a meteor and missed killing people, well, it's only a matter of time.
"Our whole entire planet, every square inch of it from the Artic to Anartic is surrounded by giant rocks and metals from space... We could get it from any direction at all. And no one really knows."
Someone else thought the damage had already been done. Posting under "Something Just Crashed in Virginia!!!!!!," the person wrote:
"Not to worry... was probably just my 401k."

My Heavenly Father throwing rocks,
no, more like the Obamaites stealing my earnings. My 401K is more of a concern to me than the mysteries of the universe. All is under control, even the government but I do have to keep reminding myself of that. Thank God I have a pastor who is enlightened to the truth and does his job of emphasizing who is in control.
“because we can’t put limits on God’s creative freedom.”
That's what she said!
Vatican ref.
“How can we exclude that life has developed elsewhere?” asked Vatican astronomer Father Jose Gabriel Funes. Interviewed in the Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, he expressed the view that there could be alien intelligences elsewhere in space. “This is not in contrast with our faith,” he stated, “because we can’t put limits on God’s creative freedom.”
USAF: 'Bright light' not man-made object
From Drudge Report Link: WASHINGTON - The flashing lights and booming sounds that were attributed to a piece of orbiting space junk were not the result of a man-made object, according to the United States Air Force. March 31, 2009 - 4:50am

HHHHHHHMMMMMM... Now this gets even more interesting! We now have conflicting "agency" reports. Also interesting to note that two commenters from yesterday's article reported seeing some type of aircraft and one commentor, observed her lights flicker and her surge protector alarmed twice during the event. Could this suggest a mini EMP release? Target practice? IFOs? (Identified Flying Objects).
And yes, (ref. below) why would the Vatican say last summer that it's now OK to believe that life may exist "out there." Now recently NASA reports Water and methane on Mars? Disclosure may be soon! Can we handle the fact that we may not be alone?

the news
I was watching one of the local hampton roads news shows at noon and they did a short follow up piece on this story and said that officials are now saying that it was not space junk. The news anchor then said that these same officials aren't saying what it was. The way he said it seemed to suggest that they know what is was but aren't telling.
My guess is that it was probably something ET related, possibly with military involvement. I doubt it was solely a military operation. Think about it. Why would the military be conducting any secret tests or experiments at 9:45pm on a Sunday night? This occured right over Hampton Roads with people all over reporting strange lights and explosions of such magnitudes that it caused their houses to shake. Something smells fishy about this event. I am left thinking about Reagan's speech when he pondered about threats from outside this world. Why would a President say that in a public speech?
Actually, I think this story covers the event better. . .

The Truth is out there...
What you heard was our economy as another auto bailout package is mulled over in Washington...
Kaboom
I live near Bayside Hospital. I was in my living room watching tv when I heard the explosion and felt the house shake. My first thought was that something had blown up at Little Creek. But I think the most likely suspect would be a test plane that blew up and crashed.
ET' s Call Home...
Finally got answered.
