Fire destroys Eastern Shore furniture store

A large fire on the Eastern Shore this morning destroyed a furniture store in Bloxom, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported in the blaze called in shortly before 3 a.m., said Chief Michael Turner of the Parksley Volunteer Fire Company.

“When we got on scene, we had fire blowing out in all directions,” Turner said by phone this morning.

It took firefighters nearly two hours to get the blaze under control, Turner said.

A state police investigator was called to the scene to determine the cause.
