Germany's highest court has ruled that a PETA ad campaign comparing animal slaughterhouses to the Holocaust is an offense against human dignity.
The 2003 campaign used eight, 60-square-foot (5.6-sq. meter) panels depicting images of factory farms next to Jewish concentration camp inmates and the slogan "Holocaust on your plate."
The Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe on Thursday ruled that the ad campaign was not protected under freedom of speech laws.
Norfolk-based PETA — People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals — claimed its goal was to compare Nazi-run concentration camps with contemporary animal abuse.
Paul Spiegel, former president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, filed the suit against the ad campaign along with several other Jewish organizations.
PETA issued the following statement to The Virginian-Pilot:
"'Holocaust on Your Plate' was the idea of a Jewish PETA member, was funded by a Jewish PETA member, and is supported by people who believe that the original Holocaust was an atrocity that never would have happened if members of society had realized that discrimination based on any difference between living beings is supremacism. Today's supremacism is animal slavery, animal exploitation, and the view that although other species can feel pain and experience emotions like joy, fear, and motherly love, it's OK to string them up by one leg and cut their throats just to satisfy the appetites of the ruling class or make them into a collar or handbag on a whim. We believe that PETA Deutschland will win the case on appeal."

A fact about the Nazi
For the interest of the PETA groups. The main leader of the holocaust "Adolf Hitler" was an avid vegetarian and deplored people who ate meat and smoked cigarettes. That's one for those who believe that if we did away with eating meat that people would be a lot more gentle and understanding of each other.
How Does This Suprises Anyone?
This is the typical behavior of the PETA clan. They do their best to be outlandish about what they do. I guess they always figure that any publcity and attention if good; even if it is negative. Fortunely, most of the time they just tend to be extremely ridicious in the way they present themselves. It is a shame too. In some regards I agree with some of the issues that they present such as mistreatment of cats and dogs at pounds. However their obcession with Michael Vick has been quite a bit on the deep side. If they had their way, we would probably be in the Planet of the Apes or something of that sort.

Granted animals should not be treated like pieces of meat, but I am so pissed off at PETA that they are comparing them to the Holocaust survivors. Who the hell do they think they are? We should pick them up and move their headquarters to Germany, just outside one of the death camps from the War, and as far as the Jewish employee who's lame brain idea this was, I am Jewish too....you are pretty stupid to compare apples to oranges, no wonder you work for PETA!

Sorry PETA but homo sapiens are SUPERIOR. By comparing the holocaust victims to slaughterhouse animals you are no better than the Nazi's who committed the atrocities.
Extremism is Extremism no matter the cause so I place PETA alongside the long list of enemies of peace and harmony on this planet. If PETA had any guts what so ever (they are cowards)they would be in most every third world or better yet Muslim country protesting real cruelty towards animals including Homo Sapiens! Facing an enemy who will make you disappear would show true commitment to your cause. Whining, moaning, complaining and protesting to and about those who give you the freedom to do so is cowardice.
Everyone in Tidewater should start trapping rats and mice instead of killing them and take them to PETA. The press should then take note and the government keep tabs on how PETA handles the treatment of the thousands upon thousands of rodents.

Worked as intended
The ad campaign did what it was supposed to do. It was designed to get a bunch of people into a moral outage so media outlets around the world give them free exposure like this story. I think they're quite aware that many countries around the world do not have the free speech rights of the US and really didn't care what the judgment would be.
