Pepsi Bottling Group Inc. is planning a $20 million expansion to its bottling plant in Newport News, the city announced today.
The 16,000-square-foot expansion will involve equipping the plant with the ability to produce bottles, said Kim Lee, a spokeswoman for the city of Newport News. The plant will be one of four in the country with that capability, she said.
Pepsi Bottling will add 15 workers at the facility. It currently employs 200 there.

This is a big deal
because it shows that there is growth in businesses instead of all the doom and gloom that has been reported on a daily basis. Keep in mind that this also means work for atleast one construction company and about two - four dozen construction workers who would otherwise not have work right now. And did either of you read the article yesterday about the new apartment buildings that are going up all around the area? This is also putting people to work who would otherwise not be working due to the new home market collapse so yes this is good news that needs to be reported on at a time when every positive message no matter how small is needed so dont add to the negativity by slamming good news.
Dancing in the streets???
Are we really supposed to be excited over 15 jobs? This is a joke! That many people probably lost their job yesterday alone somewhere in this area!! Must be low on "real news" today!
???
This is new? I know someone there who has been talking about this for months and supposedly several weeks ago at least started work on the line producing bottles.
This was news MONTHS ago.
