Virginia to receive $116M in funds for transportation

Posted to: News Virginia

Virginia will receive $116.1 million in federal stimulus money for public transportation, the Obama administration announced Thursday.

About $25.3 million will be sent directly to Hampton Roads Transit, said a spokesman for the organization. HRT will use most of the money on a $52 million project to raze and rebuild a Norfolk dispatch and bus facility on 18th Street.

A spokesman for Gov. Timothy M. Kaine said the money for public transit was expected.

Barriers

The hurricane barriers at each entrance and exit, lots of repairs could have been paid for instead of these arms guarding the highways! Balance the amount of speedy evecuations out of Hampton Roads versus road repairs, I think the money could have been used for more important projects. Have been here since 70s and have never seen mass exiting because it was that bad.

potholes

Can we please, please, please, I'm begging here, fix the 50,000 potholes on I64 and I264? The conspiracy nut in me says they are just letting the roads crumble so we will HAVE to ride a bus or the LR.
