Fleet Forces names sailors of the year

U.S. Fleet Forces announced its fleet sea and shore sailor of the year winners at a ceremony Thursday.

Petty Officer 1st Class Robert L. Barber of Albany, Ga., was chosen as fleet sea sailor of the year. The aviation electronics technician is from Sea Control Squadron 32 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Petty Officer 1st Class Chasity M. Morales of Long Beach, Calif., was chosen as fleet shore sailor of the year. The religious program specialist is from Naval Submarine Support Center in New London, Conn.

The two were chosen from 12 finalists and presented with ceremonial cutlasses at the event, held at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside.

Adm. Jonathan Greenert, commander of U.S. Fleet Forces, and Fleet Master Chief Tom Howard presided over the ceremony.

"You are the role models, not only for those who will come behind you, but also for those who have been around a lot longer than you," Greenert was quoted as saying in a news release. "I am very honored to be here today and you are truly one in a million."
