Granby High teacher arrested in child porn case

NORFOLK

A Granby High School teacher has been arrested on charges of receiving child pornography on his home computer.

Shon M. Walter, 50, of the 3800 block of Karlin Circle, Norfolk, waived a bond hearing in federal court Tuesday. He's been in jail since his arrest Friday on a 10-count indictment.

A magistrate judge set Walter's arraignment for April 15.

The indictment alleges that on five occasions in 2005 and once in 2008 Walter received child pornography images on his home computer. At least one image contained a violent incestuous rape scene involving a 10-year-old child, the indictment says.

Federal agents discovered more images on hard drives and a compact disc taken from Walter's home during a search of the premises in December, the indictment says.

Walter teaches computer technology at Granby. The school division suspended him without pay pending the outcome of the case, according to spokeswoman Jennifer Francis.

Walter has taught at Granby since 1995. Prior to that, he taught at Lake Taylor High School and the Norfolk Technical Center. He started working for Norfolk schools in 1989.

The school division could not comment any further on the matter, Francis said.

There has to be more to this story...

The law just doesn't knock on your door and ask you if it's ok to search your personal computer in your own house for porn being on it. Wonder what prompted this action ? What's the rest of the story here?
