King's Fork High guard Jaquon Parker said Tuesday night that he has withdrawn his commitment to sign with Old Dominion University next fall, declaring he made his previous decision too quickly.
"ODU is still in the running, but I kind of thought I should look around more," said Parker, who gave his verbal commitment to the Monarchs two weeks ago. "I need to see what else is out there."
Multiple sources familiar with the situation said Tuesday that Parker, who led King's Fork of Suffolk to the Group AAA state boys basketball title, had been in contact in the past week with Cincinnati. Others who were previously involved in the recruitment of the 6-foot-4, multi-talented guard included Georgetown, Connecticut and Virginia.
Asked who he was now considering, Parker would only say, "the same colleges as before."
While a senior age-wise under Virginia High School League eligibility rules, the 19-year-old Parker is a junior academically and had expected to go to Hargrave Military Academy in the fall to prep a year and complete his high school graduation requirements. He has yet to take the SAT and had previously stated that he would sign a national letter of intent with the Monarchs in November.
NCAA rules forbid college coaches to comment on players until they have signed a national letter of intent.
"I really liked the program at ODU and I still do," Parker said. "I just think I was rushing things and everything was moving too fast. It was not the right time to make a decision."

Someone...
needs to advise this young man to make sure he is going to get into college first before making any decision on playing for a college team. He has not taken a SAT test yet and he is already making a verbal commitment. As the previous poster said, Goodluck, it looks like he really needs it.
Advisor Problem
Whomever is advising this young man has missed the cardinal rule of life. Your word is your bond. Reneging on a verbal commitment is not a good start. I hope ODU keeps looking and "he can stay on the list...", but if a better candidate surfaces grab him!
Why bother?
why are we even bothering with these comments begging Parker to come to ODU? It's not like he can read.
Ohio
I was 18 when i found my way to Columbus, Ohio. It is extremely cold there in the winter and it comes about early and makes for a long winter. Thank goodness i found my way to Old Dominion University. Just remember it is a great opportunity to play in a quality situation infront of friends and family. Im sure you would have many opportunities to showcase your talent. Good luck to you.
hold on a minute!
Read the article, 19 year old junior, hasn't even taken SAT test. I think I would ask myself "would I even be qualified?". Didn't think so. why not summer school/night classes to graduate? Kind of late to work on grades now don't you think? It's not like his coaches didn't know he was a 16 year old freshman on the varsity. 3 years and a State Championship and not prepared to enter college to play. Sad. Good Luck you are probably going to need it.
Dear Jaquon
We would love to have you as a Monarch in 2010. You will truly help our program reach the next level and it would be great for you to stay close to friends and family so they can watch you play college ball. I understand the tough decision in deciding where to go to school, but you would be a great Monarch.
Wishing you the wisdom in your decision making,
ODU Fan
Maaaaannnnn.....
Come on Jaquon?!?!
No Big Surprise
Verbal commitments don't mean diddly-poo when there's still time for BCS money to find it's way under the table to these kids.
