Police are searching for a dark-skinned black male in his 20s in connection with the slaying of 18-year-old Isiah Jones a week ago.
The suspect's description was released Thursday.
Witnesses said they saw the man running away from the scene of the shooting at the Lynnhaven Crossing Shopping Center shortly after 8 p.m. last Friday, Officer Adam Bernstein said. The suspect was described as about 6 feet tall and 150 pounds, with some facial hair. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt pulled over his head.
Although police have not released details about a possible motive for the shooting, Jones' friends said the shooter may have tried to rob him of his silver-and-diamond cross necklace. The necklace was placed on Jones' body at a wake Wednesday, said friend Marcus Rice, 32.
Jones' funeral was held Thursday. He was a senior at Cox High School and a Fame All Stars cheerleader. Police ask that anyone with information call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (562-5887).
